Why Therapy?
Therapy can make a difference in many life situations, most importantly because psychological treatment improves self-confidence and life satisfaction. With a stronger sense of self, it is possible to identify choices, make decisions, and find more productive ways to live. Psychoanalysis and psychotherapy promote greater access to emotional experience, and intimacy with other people.
Recent research suggests that sustained psychological treatment which focuses on personality dynamics brings the greatest relief for symptoms, such as depression and anxiety, and the most change in life circumstances to clients, including those suffering with extreme emotional distress. The task of choosing a therapist can seem daunting; however, with sensitive guidance, it is possible to find psychological support that is responsive to each person's needs.
Psychoanalysis and psychotherapy can improve adaptations to challenging life situations. Many people seek therapeutic help for problems with intimate relationships: meeting someone, creating a loving relationship and sustaining it. Others seek to alleviate stress during a crisis, such as divorce, miscarriage, or loss of a loved one. In addition, there is a need for psychological support during life transitions, for example, changing jobs, moving, fertility issues, marriage or the birth of a new baby.
Consultation with a psychologist can improve day-to-day functioning in the face of chronic conditions, including depression, anxiety, and medical treatment. Psychotherapy can also address problematic behaviors, such as addictions, eating disorders, and behaviors related to a history of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse.
It is a brave and optimistic step to begin therapy which has the power to heal old wounds, renew self confidence, and expand emotional experience.
